The New Renaissance
If art is the expression of the human soul, then the highest, most noble aspiration is that art enrich and empower humanity. What if a new art renaissance came about where art’s purpose was not only to entertain, but to educate, inspire, and to a greater extent, eradicate disease, assist disaster victims and provide assistance to any number of other gallant endeavors? Da Vinci showed us that art could help answer questions which science alone cannot.
The artistic expression of painting has evolved and taken shape in many forms throughout history. Painting, like fashion, seems to have certain popular styles, to which the majority of painters subscribe and follow in their own interpretation. It makes sense, as the movement and its methods are taught and are also widely approved by critics, historians, and patrons alike. But what if it became fashionable for the message to be more important than method and medium?
“Great art reaches beyond the senses and sensibilities to touch the soul.”
–Michael Israel
Too often we assume all similar vehicles carry the same message. Certainly without an enticing and novel method and medium, an artist’s message would go largely unnoticed. Throughout history there are a few who dare to stand out from the pack. Those who, for whatever compelling reasons, have opted to step away from the accepted standard to create something novel and original. Despite resistance from those who have yet to comprehend a new style, a handful of artists have followed their vision to break new ground. These artists have proven to be the innovators who have been responsible for the evolution of art.
As late as the end of the 19th century, artists were experimenting with new ideas, breaking away from the accepted norm of academic Realism. Edouard Manet chose to paint the way he preferred, rather than in the style others deemed acceptable. His ideas became Impressionism as we know, and revere it, today. Monet, Pissarro, Renoir and others worked in the same fashion, opting to capture the transient effects of light and color of a subject rather than to paint it with perfect, realistic precision, as was the accepted practice. Dedicated to their art, these artists continued to paint the same subjects and scenes at different times of the day and thus in different light, without Warren Buffett signs his portraitapparent regard for the opinions of their critics.
Later still, in the 1940's, artists like Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock pioneered Abstract Expressionism, dismissing not only the idea that art must stem from nature, but that art might not need to be about any particular subject at all. Rather than merely depict images, Abstract artists worked to evoke thoughts, feelings, or emotions. No one knew how to interpret the work, some of which seemed to be a mottled mix of drips, drabs and slashes. Yet today, decades after his demise, it may be difficult for anyone to look at Pollock's massive Number 1, 1950 (also known as Lavender Mist) without forming an opinion or experiencing emotion on some level.
For more than 4 decades, beginning as a child in the early 60’s on the walls of his parent’s home, Michael Israel has ventured beyond the traditional and accepted styles and “norms” of art. Since then Michael's work has touched millions. He has shared limelight with celebrities, CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, and world leaders alike. He has painted and presented at some of the world’s grandest venues including Grimaldi Fourm in Monte Carlo, the Olympic Medals stage in Salt Lake, and presidential events in Washington DC. Michael has helped inspire compassion and bring millions of dollars in support for numerous charities. One might wonder, then, how his contributions might be perceived in the future. Has society progressed so that a burgeoning artist might be recognized as a visionary with new, exhilarating facets to his work that might be viewed as insightful and revolutionary? Or rather, must he follow in the footsteps of his artistic forefathers, struggling for acceptance from a world largely refusing to widen its scope? Indeed, Israel's work moves far beyond the act of painting and the final result of what is achieved on canvas. Yet, if only those portions of his work are considered, he may well be keeping company with some of the most brilliant artists.
And while our First Amendment guarantees us the right to make any statement we wish, Michael believes that such freedom comes with the moral obligation to use it for good purpose and not sensationalism and vulgarity for the sake of profit and greed. So, how can emotional and social value be heightened? If painting is the expression, and a canvas is consistently the same flat format, how can one hope to move beyond the traditional limitations of his art?
Michael Israel, it seems, has found precisely that answer. For him, the act of painting is just one component of his artistic expression in a fervently charged performance, one in which his audience is very much a part of the process. To date, there may not be a specific definition for Israel's work. Is it a performance? Is he a painter in the artistic sense? Is it a concert? A social commentary? An experience? The answers are all emphatically yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. It is all of those things and more. Michael Israel is an anomaly.
To experience his work is to be swept up in a fantastic maelstrom of emotion, to give in to the electrifying current of energy coursing between artist and observer. His performance encompasses a multitude of components. The initial and most obvious being the heart-pounding music, pulsing and reverberating, crescendos highlighting Michael's performance in perfect unison to his strokes, sometimes with double fisted paint brushes, others with only his hands. As he spins his canvas, round and round, back and forth, the audience is mesmerized, curious as to what his movements and strokes will reveal. Michael Israel, lithe and athletic, uses his whole body in what seems to be a magical, lyrical, exuberant dance, pulling his audience in as part of a heightened experience. To witness him in action is to think that he personifies the concept of kinetic art. it is that and more, which defies definition. As his program builds to a booming, thrilling conclusion, audience members are left exhilarated and fulfilled, having been captivated by his hypnotic performance. Far more than an up-side-down portrait or abstract splashes Michael’s presentation exudes originality and significance.
Possibly it is Michael's innate ability to delve into each creation, through movement and music that delivers a message more profound than any still piece of imagery could begin to convey. Passion for his work, and compassion for a cause fuse together for an energy that begs enlightenment and understanding on a new plateau. To witness any of Michael Israel's programs is to surrender to the energy, the exhilaration, and the unmitigated emotion generated by his unique style. Though Michael has paved the way for others, one must only experience his performance to realize that it is an emotional odyssey like no other, the result of which is a newfound insight into that particular cause, and it touches each member of the audience on a personal level.
For charities, Michael's performances raise awareness, goodwill, and funds on a grand scale. Certainly, these achievements alone are the purpose in orchestrating such events and yet, through Michael's moving, compelling program, he reaches beyond the usual altruistic endeavors and reaches a little more deeply, clearly, and honestly on a more personal scope.
Whether he is performing for Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, City of Hope, or countless other charitable organizations, one thing is certain, Michael Israel knows how to reach his audience, and he touches boldly, deeply, and succinctly. His generosity and compassion are evident and make for a rewarding experience for all.
Clearly, Michael Israel has transcended the boundaries suffered by painters of the past. His work, both during the process, the performance, and subsequently in the end result of the composition have proven to reach out to his audience, embrace them, and thereby evoking feeling and emotion. Will this concept go down in history as the next chapter to ultimately be praised and followed? Hopefully those emulating his movements and technique will in the process discover: it is not the paint that lands on the canvas or how high you jump that is significant but the message that lands on the heart and how it empowers others.
In an age of abundant multi-media, it is possible that Israel's performances will be viewed and studied in classrooms, the progression beyond the proverbial slide show of French Impressionist paintings. One thing is for sure, decades into the future, he will be exalted for creating the next genre of art, when a new movement in art is exactly about that: movement in art.

en·ter·tain·ment n - An amusement or diversion intended to hold the attention of an audience or its participants.
Entertainment comes in many forms, including singing, dancing, acting in theatre or in film or playing a musical instrument. Certainly the terms extends to comedy acts, acrobatics, and a broad spectrum of other types of performances. Yet there seems to be no definition to describe an accurate characterization of the performance of Michael Israel.
“Michael Rocks! It’s an eye opening thrill you won’t believe until you see it for yourself and anup lifting moment you’ll never forget. “
- Entertainment New & Views
While those who have seen his spectacular performances have attempted to explain the experience by creating hypothetical hybrids like, Cirque du Soleil meets Pablo Picasso, or part Monet, part David Copperfield, or even Blue Man Group. True, his shows may share similar facets as others in terms of the basic elements of time, space, and use of the performer's body. Presence of a specific theme and the vital importance of music throughout the production are also common denominators. Such comparisons, however, fail to hit the mark of an accurate description for what is ultimately a unique, all encompassing show.
“The crowd goes crazy as Israel moves with the music to create spectacular images.”
                                                                                                                  — the Sun Press
The first indication that Israel is up to something totally fresh and different is the immediate relationship he has with his audience. Attention to the stage is not commanded or coerced as much as it is enticed. It may be sheer curiosity that initially captures the audience as Israel's energy is instantly felt through the arena. Clad completely in black and painting on a canvas, the tone is set for what 10,000 fans at Constitution Fair, AZwill prove to be an explosion of color and incredible imagery. Michael's dedication to the study of martial arts and a rigorous training schedule are immediately put into play. His lithe, pliant body lunges forth as he brandishes any number of paintbrushes, stroking, slinging or hurling vibrant colors of paint in time with the music. The audience is captivated by the spectacular visual display unfolding in front of them. Simultaneously they are swept into the performance itself, caught in the frenzy of nearly magical movement, music, and emotion materializing with each rhythmic stroke.
Crowd pleasing "art rock" performances – USA Today
For many, the frenetic fluidity of Israel's may feel like it is almost a private performance. So strong is the connection between artist and spectator, it can seem like a particular image is being created specifically for a single member of the crowd. The increasing flow of energy passed between Michael and his audience is an integral part of his performance, drawing the audience in as a participant rather than as a mere bystander.
“A master” - Time Magazine
Noticeably absent is the idle murmur of conversation in the room. It is replaced with a virtually audible anticipation, then intermittent gasps as Israel spins canvas to and fro, carving shapes and colors about with what appears to be gravity defying grace and agility. 'Ooohhhs' and 'ahhhhhhs' of surprise and recognition are heard as the music builds to a crescendo and Michael's composition takes shape. By the time a piece is completed, the crowd is on their feet, cheering, applauding, and at times, giving in to the flow of emotional tears.

Michael Israel's subjects cover a vast array of topics; from popular cultural Corporate Event • Vancouver, Canadaicons such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana to patriotic scenes and landmarks to his original, heart warming original compositions. While his work gives a nod to Norman Rockwell, or early Peter Max, Israel's style is uniquely his own. Each piece appears to be created specifically to touch his audience and their delighted reaction is proof of his success.

"I’d like to thank Michael Israel for providing entertainment here tonight."
                                                                   - President George W. Bush – 2003 Presidential Gala

Unlike other performances, Michael Israel's is without gimmick or guile. It is artistic entertainment in the truest form. One cannot help but realize that what they have experienced is the pure exhilaration of the artistic process, fortified by the audience's powerful energy connecting to Israel as he creates. One is not so much an observer or a witness, but an active, cogent participant in the spell-binding, breath-taking production, and it is a fabulous event.

“Paint flies and the good times roll. Kung-fling! Part-Jackie Chan, part-Jackson Pollock,
100 percent rock god – Charismatic performance artist and martial arts master Michael Israel
inspires the sort of fan worship that has audience members rushing to the stage to retrieve his
dripping, discarded paintbrushes as souvenirs.”
- Doug Mason, News Sentinel Knoxville
"He can who thinks he can, and he can't who thinks he can't. This is an inexorable, indisputable law."
-Pablo Picasso

Whether the goal is to supercharge executives and employees, personal power, wealth, a happy love life, or some other empowerment, many well-known motivational speakers and self-help gurus attempt to motivate an audience through speeches, group exercises, or any number of “in-your-face” approaches to promote change. These tools require participation and, at least in part, some desire by the participant to want to be inspired and motivated.

Michael Israel asks little of his audience. One must only be present to be drawn in, intrigued, and energized by his performance. To watch his Art in Concert is to succumb to an all-encompassing, inspirational experience like no other. Such a weighty claim is understood and confirmed by those who have experienced Michael Israel on stage and nearly unexplainable to those who have not. A form of communication unto itself, it is a feast for the eyes, the ears, and also for the soul. It is an event that is impossible to witness in a removed manner, the result of which is an enlightenment achieved through no other fashion.
All 2,500 were on their feet screaming and cheering during both songs. Michael really
knows how to involve and energize the audience during his performance.
– Cathy Oden, General Motors
Acclaimed as a renowned professional speaker, he gives few spoken words in his presentation. The atmosphere is electrically charged from the beginning. Heart thumping music begins, lights go up, and Michael Israel, part rock star, part Picasso, jolts his audience's attention with vibrant paint colors flying and very little dissertation. No doubt, he commands immediate and undivided attention. The music is familiar and significant and it plays an integral part of his performance, as Michael's paint seems to dance on the canvas to the pulsating beat. In his own unique style, he jumps, pivots and spins. So, too, spins the canvas in what can only be described as a perfectly choreographed rollercoaster ride for the senses.

As his images begin to take shape his mesmerized audience is visibly making the connection between the music, the imagery and their own personal belief systems - there are audible gasps as he works his magic, passing energy back and forth with the crowd as his message is created. Perhaps his canvasses depict a popular figure, or a corporate logo or icon. Maybe there is a specific, significant subject to be portrayed, as only Michael is able to express through his own signature pieces. Through his captivating performance, he has the innate ability to inspire and motivate as he reaches each member of the audience on a personal level while entertaining and thrilling on a lavish, monumental scale.

The irony is that, although the program is grand and spectacular, the true gift of fulfillment or empowerment is quite personal and each person's revelation comes from within, rather than from a buzzword or contrived mantra. Revelations emerge from inside and can be felt on a physical level. For most, it is discovered though the course of the event and felt deeply and profoundly. The discovery of newfound strength or enlightenment is virtually shouted and escalates as Michael leads his audience from one image to the next. Yet, the images are not messages as much as they are symbolic keys that unlock deeper thoughts and emotions within the viewer. In Michael's words, "Perhaps they are like magic mirrors that reflect the more noble parts of the viewer's inner self, revealing an understanding that leads to empowerment." Ultimately, it is the creation of personal fulfillment that is a fine art.
Because of all the things I do in my life I do know our group is the stiffest and most opinionated
audience ever. They were thrilled and the feedback has been wonderful. Thank you.
Here’s to another great event thanks to you! – they practically fought for the opportunity to buy
the great painting that you created. I know your schedule is extremely hectic so we especially
appreciate the time that you took to join us for this event. – Whit
For major corporate clients, Michael's unique genre has proven to be an integral part of their motivational programs for top executives and employees. In a society constantly in search of the perfect balance of personal and professional success, many of the world's largest and most successful companies have seen the benefits of Michael Israel's program.

Whether his performance is the main event or a focal point in a larger program, Michael's ability to open the eyes, minds, and hearts of his audience is an invaluable tool and an experience that will be remembered a lifetime.
The work he spontaneously created on stage of original art pieces made
the crowd go crazy. And drove fundraising dollars higher than ever before!”
- Sherrye McBryde, Executive Director,
The Susan G. Komen Brest Cancer Foundation, Arkansas
Its one thing to have incredible artistic talent, the ability to paint in a style both unique and intriguing all the while creating an elaborate spectacle. It is an even greater feat to be able to use that talent to reach others and touch them in a positive fashion. While these attributes and capabilities are true for Michael Israel, it is not enough to entertain for the sheer pleasure of the experience. It is not enough to revel in the financial reward and notoriety. He has chosen a more difficult less traveled path and uses his artistic gifts and ability to evoke overwhelming feelings of empathy for others that extends beyond the customary avenues. He shares his good fortune and creative passion by focusing his energy where it can truly make a difference in the lives of others.
Your concert at the Lemieux Celebrity Winners Circle party last Friay evening was unbelievable.
"WOW" was probably the most common reaction by all who attended. Your talent is nothing short
of fantastic. I was fortunate to have made the successful bid. I plan to donate the portrait to The
Children's Home of Pittsburgh for the grand opening of their new building early next year.
Thank you for the exciting event last Friday. - Sincerely, Anthony W. Liberati
Michael has performed for countless charities. His involvement has evolved over the years as he has learned and grown from his involvement. Michael often reflects back to a particularly humbling time when, early in his career, his charitable contributions had taken on far more than his time and finances would allow. At a particularly low point, Israel suffered the loss of his studio and went broke. A wiser man emerged from the experience equipped with the same strong commitment to his humanitarian efforts and impressively innovative programs to optimize each event. His creative vision spills over into a bottom-line driven focus to secure sponsor dollars, obtain and maximize positive media and press, and increase event attendance and ticket sales. His aid accomplishes these things by providing world-class entertainment with artwork that has commands hundreds of thousands in charitable support.
I had the PLEASURE of meeting and talking with Michael Israel last night (as well as watching
him perform and bring in about $40,000 for the Mario Lemieux fundraiser in Pittsburgh with his
action paintings.........He's amazing and awesome and I THINK I might have talked him into coming
up for our mARTi Gras...........if he's available......
...He's truly the BEST I've ever seen...........What a way to bring down the house !!!
He's a great guy whose heart is in the right place........I was totally impressed with him
(and I don't get easily impressed anymore).............
- Michelee A. Curtze, Director of Federal, State & NonPublic School Services
The most obvious benefit to Michael's programs is the magnificent, inspirational art that is the end result of his performance. His paintings are often pre-sold, and many are sold at auction for tens of thousands. The list of private collectors continues to grow, with many buyers adding to their collections through donations dedicated to a specific charity. An organization fortunate enough to be able to include Michael Israel's performance in their event quickly understands that his magic reaches much farther than symbolic imagery that tugs at the heart strings and wallets of its attendees.
WHAT A BLAST!!!! Thank you so much for an incredible night.
Thank you again for all you have done to help the children of Unity School.
- Diane Shawcross, Director of Special Events, Unity School
Possibly it is Michael's innate ability to delve into each creation, through movement and music that delivers a message more profound than any still piece of imagery could begin to convey. Passion for his work, and compassion for a cause fuse together for an energy that begs enlightenment and understanding on a new plateau. To witness any of Michael Israel's programs is to surrender to the energy, the exhilaration, and the unmitigated emotion generated by his unique style. One must only experience his performance to realize that it is an emotional odyssey like no other, the result of which is a newfound insight into that particular cause, and it touches each member of the audience on a personal level.

Many of his signature pieces have become highly recognized, important images for a number of causes. "Hero", is a 9/11 tribute depicting a firefighter rescuing a frightened child. "Legacy" has been referred to as the most beautiful, meaningful pink sneaker in the world. Israel's beautiful, "Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye" is a poignant, tender Tsunami tribute that eases the trauma of loss with the idea that beauty if found in the life's darkest moments. It reminds us that growth and rebirth are inevitable after devastation, and most of all, that love cannot be destroyed by nature's threats. "65 Roses" portrays the heartwarming story of how Cystic Fibrosis came to be called "65 Roses". "My Big Brother" signifies the tremendous significance and impact of a strong adult presence in the life of a child during the formative years.

Michael's performances raise awareness, goodwill, and funds on a grand scale.

You are amazing! My daughter loves John
Lennon and his talent and she was thrilled when you painted the masterpiece of John. She
wanted it so bad! Just wanted you to know what an inspiration you were to us yesterday. I am
a voice teacher and have a huge vocal studio and what a blessing it was to have been with you
yesterday! God has blessed you with so many gifts! - Jill and Molly Brown, Sherman, Texas
He trained under many teachers and truly excelled when he met Dr. Mel Wise who became his Sensie (instructor) and whose charisma and leadership inspired Michael to new hights. It consumed him, became a driving passion...an obsession to train all out 7 days a week often spending his nights and weekends sleeping on the Dojo floor just to be able to train more hours. Dr. Wise took Michael black belt level and a USKA Grand National Championship by age 17. During the years Michael competed he was consistently rated in Karate Illustrated Magazine. Michael credits his Dr. Wise for his success today!
