Painter’s performance to help Lakewood Ranch family’s foundation

Internationally known performance painter Michael Israel will star in a live fundraising show to benefit the Payton Wright Foundation that was formed by a Lakewood Ranch family to provide financial support to families nationwide who have children fighting brain cancer.

On Oct. 3 at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, Israel will help the nonprofit generate awareness and financial support at the interactive show. He will create five 6-foot by 4-foot paintings to be auctioned off during the event. He is helping the foundation for the third time.

“To experience Michael’s work is to be swept up in a fantastic maelstrom of emotion,” said Holly Wright, co-founder of the foundation with her husband, Patrick. “You can’t help but give into the electrifying current of energy coursing between artist and observer. His performance encompasses a multitude of components, and that’s why we knew we wanted to feature him again at this year’s event,” she said.

A VIP party begins at 5:30 p.m. with a meet-and-greet with Israel. A reception starts at 6 p.m., with dinner and the program beginning at 7 p.m.

“His unique and fascinating performance is always emotional, poignant and breathtaking,” Patrick Wright said.

Attending the event to show their support will be pediatric neuro-oncologists Dr. Sridharan Gururangan from Duke Children’s Hospital and Dr. Ana Aguilar and Dr. Amy Smith from Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando.”

Gururangan treated Payton Wright, the Wrights’ 5-year-old daughter who died in 2007 from brain cancer.

“The Duke Pediatric Neuro-Oncology program is proud to have the Payton Wright Foundation as a partner in the fight against brain cancer,” Gururangan said. “The work we do is rewarding but also challenging, and The Payton Wright Foundation truly embodies the slogan ‘No one fights alone.’”

The foundation helps support families who are caring for a child with brain cancer by working with families, physicians and social workers to provide practical relief for things such as fuel, food or housing expense so that families can give full concentration to their child’s care and treatment.

Patron tickets are $200 and VIP tickets are $350. To buy tickets or to learn more about sponsorship opportunities, call (941) 228-4886 or visit For more information about Israel, visit
